The Surprising Product Chrissy Teigen's Makeup Artist Uses for Illumination

After we were done obsessing with her lace Marchesa dress (and the ADORABLE Instagram pic she shared of her bump), all we could concentrate on was the glowy eye makeup Chrissy Teigen chose for the 88th Annual Academy Awards
And while we know picking the right shadow shade is hugely important in copying Chrissy's signature, radiant look, we also learned that before any makeup is applied, Chrissy Teigen's makeup artist turns to a surprising skin care product to prep her eye area and more important, to give it that pretty sheen. It's SPF.
No joke.
After prepping her skin with Simple Micellar Water ($6; target.com) and a rich moisturizer, celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips used Simple Skincare Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 ($9; walmart.com) as an eye cream. Yep.
"SPF products can create a sheen and radiance so you almost don't even need an illuminator," explained Phillips. "I gently patted it on the orbital bone of her eye area—you want to be extra sensitive when applying anything to the eye area," she says of the look she created for Chrissy.
Makes you appreciate SPF even more, right?
After prepping Chrissy's skin, Mary turned to multiple shades of Lorac Sheer POREfection Foundation ($34;nordstrom.com) to create a natural-looking, healthy skin, Lorac POREfection Baked Perfecting Powder ($33;nordstrom.com) to mattify the skin, and concealer.
She also used Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder ($44; sephora.com) to contour and finished off the skin with Lorac Light Source on the forehead, bridge of the nose, apples of the cheeks and chin.
So what shadow did she grab? That was the work of her talent and various shades of Lorac Unzipped Palette ($42;nordstrom.com).
